Tour time!

It's time!

(Hi!)

The DAUGHTER OF SMOKE AND BONE tour!!!!!

(leg 1)

You guys, this is my FIRST book tour. I hope you will come and say hello!

Also, there will be prizes. Truly. Cool prizes for question-askers,
and also for book bloggers in attendance, because we lurve you guys the most.

CHICAGO, IL

ANN ARBOR, MI

BOSTON, MA

CONNECTICUT

From here I'm going to London for a couple of wonderful days, and I'm sorry that I haven't posted any information about London events yet. I'm sorry! Will try to do that in the next day or two.

The rest of the tour info is HERE.

So, I've inadvertently learned something: that one should consider party-theme-ability when one is writing a book. That is, ask yourself: "Would my book make a good party theme?" I didn't think about this in advance, but I will from now on, because Daughter of Smoke and Bone *does* make a good party theme, and as a result, my amazing and wonderful publishers and friends and family have thrown parties. There was the astonishing sales conference last spring in London; the gorgeous soiree in New Orleans this summer; this awesome corner of a party in New York; and now: here in Portland, my best friend and my parents conspired to make my intimate hometown book-launch a spectacle. I totally wasn't expecting this!

Here is the party-planner; you can't tell in sepia, but her hair is Karou-blue :-)

Look! Two Karous!

(Can you tell I just got my hair "freshly empinked"?)

The props! Teeth, masks, glowing skulls, snakes, smoke. A smoke machine! Dry ice! Total awesomeness!

And the menu! Alexandra's boyfriend Andrew cooked up some awesome smoke-themed stuff, YOM. My mom made goulash, and if you've read Daughter you know why. She also took the time to find a recipe for Czech goulash instead of Hungarian, and it was SO GOOD. So full of yummy spices. SO GOOD.

(Totally awesome recipe HERE.)

Who are these mysterious characters?

Not so mysterious, mah girl:

(By the way, I did find a "pocket mama" and also a "pocket Clementine" who will accompany me on the trip and likely make some photo appearances. I was very sad tonight doing the last bookies and tuck-in for a little while. *trembly lip*)

Hope to see you guys at one of these awesome bookstores! Remember: prizes :-) Also, thank you so so so much to all you advance readers who have helped to spread the word. It's crazy to me that the book isn't even officially released yet, and it has been read by so many people. The feedback has been amazing, a dream come true.

And thank you wonderful wonderful publishers Little Brown and Hodder & Stoughton. I am the luckiest writer :-)

Oh no you are going to be so close to me, but my scooter is broken! Maybe I can convince my boyfriend I can borrow his car Friday night...

Hey Laini! I have been waiting and waiting for DoSaB to finally come out to the public. I met you at a dinner in Chicago and work at Magic Tree Books in Oak Park, Il, and let's just say that themed window displays are really fun when you have a book like this to play with. Turquoise tulle and feathers and teeth banners have been filling my head all week!

I am seriously contemplating driving over for your California signings. There are SO MANY questions I would love to ask.
The party looks amazing, I saw Debbie is now planning on having a Daughter of Smoke & Bone party. We will have to use your moms goulash recipe, so we can all have goulash breath!
I was at lunch with my book friends and was telling them that they had to read Smoke & Bone. Explaining how I have been stuck in a Smoke & Bone haze since I read it, and since we are all book junkies there is no higher complement.
Good luck, I know your tour will be great!!

A tour!! How exciting! I hope you have a blast. :)

Omigosh, if you're going to Chicago, you have to get someone to take you to Angel Food Bakery. They have amazing cupcakes, and the shop is decorated with vintage Easy Bake ovens.

The Boston Cream cupcake is my favorite.

Hi Laini! I've been following your blog since before Blackbringer found its way to bookstore shelves, and I'm so excited to meet you on Wednesday at Anderson's! As a teacher/librarian/general book nerd, I am always recommending you to students and patrons.

Also, I know you probably won't have time, but if you're looking for a place to pick up some comics, I highly recommend Brainstorm Comics on North Ave. They are so sweet there, and really know their stuff.

Hope everything goes swimmingly for you. I'm sure those pocket mama and pocket Clementine dolls will get lots of hugs during your trip. What a fantastic idea.

Looking forward to meeting you. :)

Oh oh, I wish I could see you on your tour! Alas, I am far removed from any of the locations.

But have fun and kick ass!

Oooh! Love the theme party idea!

I'm so excited you're coming to Ann Arbor on Thursday! I can't wait to meet you! (Listen to me sounding all fan-girly.) I am only on pg. 60 of Daughter of Smoke and Bone and I am already smitten. And I love even more that it takes place in Prague. I adore Prague. I was in the Czech Republic this summer but we went to Cesky Krumlov this time instead of Prague and now I wish we had gone back to Prague.

Ooooh, thank you for linking to the goulash recipe. When I read Daughter of Smoke & Bone, I was craving goulash for weeks! Love, love, love the book--I've been telling everyone that will listen that it was my favorite book this year. Hope your tour brings you to L.A. at some point!

Hello! I've been following your blog for a while Laini and always enjoyed your posts. Wandering around in my favorite bookstore the other day, I suddenly noticed your book on a stand near the counter. Well, living in New Zealand, I wasn't sure I would get a chance to read your book unless I ordered it online. Even though I didn't have much cash I bought it straight away, and so far, loving it, loving it, loving it. Thanks so much for being an author!

I have also been following your blog for awhile and I am so excited to finally get my hands on a copy of your new book! We are all excited for you! I'll see you in Seattle in a couple of weeks!

I was able to order the book through Amazon last week and I LOVED it.. Seriously could not put it down. I got so wrapped up in the story line and the world you created that I can't wait until the next one.
