Amanda Palmer, the Art of Asking

Hi guys! I kept hearing about this talk on Twitter so I just watched it, and WOW. It's really moving. I admired Amanda Palmer already, without really knowing that much about her (I had to miss her and Neil Gaiman live on stage in Portland when Clementine was wee and got sick) and this is just ... terrific.

Beautiful.

Based on the title, and my general non-knowing of what she's about, I didn't really expect to be so personally affected by it, but now I think that is what Amanda Palmer just does. She personally affects people. That's what she's about. Which is extraordinary. Here you go :-)

Great, no? So INSPIRING!!!

(Technical note: how do these people memorize and deliver their TED talks so fluidly? Wow.)

Also, tangentially related (by marriage, that is :-) ...

... I copied this quote down from a Neil Gaiman Blackberry project. It seriously speaks to me:

"The best part of actually writing is that sudden magical moment
when there's something coming out of your pen
that wasn't even there a second ago.
Everything you've been writing up until that point
suddenly magically comes together
and you ... you're flying."
-Neil Gaiman

I would urge you to check out her music if you haven't yet. I love her solo work and her work with the Dresden Dolls. Plus her shows are spectacular and moving. You can listen to all of her stuff streaming online here: http://amandapalmer.bandcamp.com/

So glad they're in the world. Could I be more in love with two people who aren't actually related to me?

I discovered this myself yesterday, and I was blown away. What a concept! Love it!

This is such an amazing Ted Talk. I absolutely love Amanda Palmer. In high school, I obsessively would listen to the Dresden Dolls. They were so different and so interesting and I truly loved the lyrics. I am still a big fan of her music now that she's a solo artist. This is such an inspiration.

Hi,

I wanted to let you know that your book "Daughter of Smoke and Bone" has inspired me and I have spent the last 10 months creating creatures. I would like to share them with you on my website www.jogoiran.com I have mentioned your name and book as the source of my inspiration. I am calling the body of work " The creatures: a journey into the world of Chimera." I hope it is OK for me to mention you directly. If not, I will be glad to remove your name. I do not know where else to post this comment.
I hope you enjoy my art.

Oh yes, I <3 Amanda and Neil so much. I actually met your husband at the Evening With event and introduced myself and heard that your little one was sick. *frowny-face*. I saw Amanda Palmer again with her new band The Grand Theft Orchestra last year when they came to Portland. Amaze-balls. Thank you for sharing and spreading her awesomeness just a little bit further.
