Moved in (sort of), and already packing to leave!

Well folks, we're in the new house. There have been some horrible days, today included, but we are out of our old house once and for all, and jumbled into the new one in a mess of boxes. Sad and weird leaving the little yellow cottage where we've been for ten years, but also ... not. Looking forward now. Hopefully the moving suck will quickly evaporate, or -- ooh! -- maybe while I am in New Orleans the next couple of days, elves will come and poof! make order from chaos. Yes? No? Okay, maybe no.

Chaos it is, then.

But ... New Orleans!

hello, beignets at Cafe du Monde :-)

This is my first ALA! That is, my first time going to the American Library Association's Annual Conference, and I am psyched. Not only because of the awesome everywhereness of books and authors and librarians and such sort of people (though that too!), but also because Little Brown is having a party for Daughter of Smoke and Bone and I can't wait! A party! A party in New Orleans! For my book! When I get back and bloggy, I will show you the amazing invitation they sent out, it's the coolest thing. Sigh. I love Little Brown.

Meantime, I am trying to pack for the trip without knowing where anything is. Seriously. I have no idea where my hair brushes are (vanished), and it hasn't mattered much the past couple of days because we have no mirrors either. Well. I think I will be visiting the drug store in the morning with a little list of necessities. I had the foresight thank goodness to keep track of some clothes, so I will be wearing clothes. That much I can promise.

If you're at ALA, please swing by the Little Brown booth on Saturday from 9-10 for a signed ARC of Daughter of Smoke and Bone and to say hello and determine for yourself whether or not I have acquired a new hairbrush! I hope to see you there.

YAY, LIBRARIES!!

Hello, beignets. Hello, Laini. We missed you while you were struggling with boxes and mops and evil hidingelves. Moving seriously sucks. Really. You get to the point where your hair is brittle with cleaning agents and the boxes seem full of dust.

But! There is a certain satisfaction in putting the plates, cleaned once more, into cabinets full of promise and nothing else. Also, you could always hope that a Disney production would sweep through the house while you're gone, everything tap dancing into its rightful place to some madhatter tune.

New Orleans, now. New Orleans does not suck. I so wish I could go. I so wish I could crash that party. I mean, those costumes in that city, it's meant to be. Have the most extraordinary fun!

Oh Laini, how I envy you! Your FIRST trip to New Orleans! You are so lucky. If you've never been, you're going to love it. Mr. Almhjell is so right--this is a city for people who love costumes. A few tips: carry water, wear sunscreen, and bring a blotting cloth. You're gonna get sweaty down there in June ;-)

But you will instantly be captivated and transported by the city itself. Be prepared to eat, hear live music, and surrender to bliss. Laissez les bon temps roulez! (Let the good times roll!)

Finally got to catch up on your blog yesterday......to find out that we moved the same weekend! Only in completely opposite ways. We are moving more gradually, and have the....luxury? of that, but on the other hand, you're all moved, just don't know where anything is.

I have never been so sad to not be going to ALA as I am this year!!! Oh, and that photo of beignets? Thanks, I'm hungrier now.

On the other hand, I do get to go on vacation (yeah, mid-move) starting Sunday, so I can't complain too much. In fact, I may have to go find my mother-in-law and hug her (she's providing the trip) because of it.

Enjoy beignets at Cafe du Monde and all of the New Orleans wonders, oh, and the ALA stuff!

I went to ALA a few times as a kid, my parents were librarians. Atlantic City was awesome... ocean all day! Have had NO interest in ALA, really, since. Had I but KNOWN you would be there, and Daughter of Smoke and Bone would be featured!!!! I still probably wouldn't have gotten to go, but I would have heavily wished I was!
Enjoy! what a fun thing!
Unpacking can certainly wait til you get home. Seriously.
:D
