Some color around the house

There has been progress around the house. Here and there, bits and pieces.

Some library shelves arranged. By color. By a lunatic. *ahem*

Picture rails! I know, I know. Shut up about the picture rails, Laini.
(Ribba, from IKEA.)

Here's the one in my work-in-progress writing room:

(That carved wooden drawer piece was acquired at Cargo, to balance out the IKEA blah.
I plan to commit the atrocity of, um, painting it. Aqua. The one I wanted was blue already,
the most gorgeous blue, the most excellent antique lacquer finish! But was realllly $$. So.)

(Adorable paper animal sculptures by Djeco.)

Ah. And the living room, finally, ART ON THE WALL!

This is just a random collection of stuff put up in a hurry, but I like it for now.
I love the idea of books as wall art! And it will be so fun to change this up.

Also, a little project whose completion was spurred by Thanksgiving,
and the need for places for our guests to place their posteriors.

Chairs!

I eeeeched to a halt one day when I spotted these guys on the sidewalk.

And this one.

Jim painted them some time ago, but they have remained seatless until now. Yay!

My dad helped out with tools; Jim cut the plywood bottoms.
A trip to Fabric Depot for foam and fabric, and some angst with the corner folds.
And voila. Sitting accomplished :-)

That's all for now. Hopefully more to show soon.

When that pesky book gets itself written ...

Lovely! Oh, I so want to arrange my books by color, but my boyfriend is less excited by the concept... He's like, "What kind of organization is that?!" My argument is, "What kind of organization do we have now?!"

I noticed you have A Company of Swans which makes me really happy because while reading Daughter of Smoke and Bone and the part about the Marionette ballet reminded me of the way Eva Ibbotson was able to make ballet come alive on the page. I have read other books about dance hoping to capture that magic, but have always was left disappointed. That is until I read Smoke & Bone, it made me so happy experiencing that magic again.
I wanted to tell you before but I was afraid you would think I would sound crazy. :)
I really need to go to ikea and get some of those shelves to display some art I recently bought.

I must get picture rails!

Well, I suppose I first have to get a house that I own rather than rent, but then... picture rails!

Thanks for the beautiful inspiration, as always.

love it! I put some colorful stacks around my house a while back -- a whole reorganization seemed overwhelming. But I've loved my little themed stacks.

Lovely! I hope you post a picture of the wooden drawers when you've painted it aqua. It's my favorite color. Excellent choice!

So much pretty! I love your print Hello Happy Life; it's inspiring.

I really love the look of books shelved by color, but I'd never be able to find anything. But it would be fun looking!

Wow, everything looks amazing. Nothing is too matchy. Everything is different, but it all fits together perfectly. Is your next vocation Interior Designer?

Good luck writing that pesky book :-)

How absolutely beautiful! I love it.

I love the feel of the mismatched chairs, the way that the paint color and seats pull them together, but their shapes let them remain their own quirky identities. It makes choosing "your chair" so much more fun.

It's so easy to look at pictures in magazines and design blogs and think "I could never do that," but when you look at your house, it becomes apparent that it really is possible.

(I was The Strand in NYC today, and spotted your book displayed in the new and best of YA section. I was so happy.)

You arranged your books by color, yay, they look great! Can I just say it's awesome that there are so many familiar titles in your bookshelf? :) Eva Ibbotson, Shannon Hale, Sherwood Smith, Robin McKinley - love all of those authors.

I LOVE, love, love all of your design ideas! I'm a little too OCD at the moment to organize my books by color rather than author, etc, but I love it every time I see it done that way. I may have to experiment soon...

I could never live with my books like that, but OH MY GOD IT'S SO PRETTY!!! I so wish I could.
