Book Trailer Contest Update & Belated Premiere Photos!

Sorry for the silence, trailer-makers! I've posted on Twitter and Facebook recently but not here to say:

YES, THE BOOK TRAILER CONTEST IS STILL ON!

But I'm pushing back the deadline because I haven't had the time to spread the word or organize the logistical things. But I am really excited about it and hope that there are some entries in the works! If this is new information to you, please see HERE. (There's a really good prize!)

I'm going to say that the new deadline is May 1. Again, sorry about that. PLEASE HELP SPREAD THE WORD TO CLEVER AND CREATIVE FRIENDS! Thank you!

Meantime, I've been meaning to post pics from the Les Mis premiere since before Christmas, and yesterday I had a great reminder. I was in my writing room, writing away, when I heard loud music coming from downstairs, where Jim and Clementine were playing. It sounded like "I Dreamed a Dream," so I stepped into the hall to hear better, and you guys, I'm not even kidding, standing in the hall hearing Anne Hathaway from downstairs, I still started crying in like five seconds. That performance is just that powerful.

Mopping my eyes, I slunk back to my desk, and when the song ended, Jim texted up (yes, sometimes we text each other at home) to say that five seconds in, he was crying. And here's the thing: he hasn't even seen the movie yet! (All our babysitting plans have been foiled in recent weeks, we're starved for movies) AND he hasn't seen the play, and doesn't really know the story, so he's reacting purely to Anne Hathaway's delivery, which is so freaking wrenching. I am in awe.

So I thought, how's about I finally gloat this picture:

I met Anne Hathaway! I met Anne Hathaway!

And Eddie Redmayne! I met Eddie Redmayne!

with my agent Jane Putch

Both were just so lovely. And so freaking talented. Did Eddie Redmayne kill you with his voice? Incredible. This was at the afterparty at MoMA, shwankety shwank shwank. Have you seen the movie yet? I'm so eager to see it again--with Jim this time. Soon, I hope. Going to the premiere was just one of those crazy experiences, and thank you so much to folks at Universal Pictures for the invite. It was a thrill!

All right, now back to work! XO!

Went and saw it Christmas day then went again the next week. It was even better the second time. I also bought the soundtrack the day after seeing it and I listen to Empty Chairs & Empty Tables more than I have have before Eddie was soooooo good. And I love Anne too. How awesome that you got to meet them and go to the premier it makes me happy that you have a great studio taking care of your story & you!

EDDIE REDMAYNE?!

Wow... envy overdrive! I've seen Les Mis twice now. The first time I teared up a little during I Dreamed a Dream... the second I started crying 5 seconds in and didn't stop until the movie was over.

The first time I saw it, I was thankful to be wearing an infinity scarf. I kept turning it to catch my sobbing tears. I still cry on that song and honestly on Eddie Redmayne's song at the end. They both made me weep.

I can't believe you MET THEM!!!! Not jealous at all, *face reddens, then greens* really, I'm just so happy for you. ;)

Oh, yes, yes, I cried and cried, too! It is such a heart wrenching story. I wish I lived in Portland so I could babysit for C and send you and Jim to see it....Love the pics! You must have had a blast.

I read the book, saw the play and the 1998 movie with Liam Neeson, Uma Thurman and Clare Danes and loved them all. People have told me the latest adaptation is good only because the cinematography adds so much to the setting that is otherwise limited on stage, and this makes up for mediocre singing talent. A few co-workers even said they hated it.

I Dreamed A Dream is such a moving, emotionally charged song a person can't help but be moved. It gives me goose bumps. All of these are amazing, and Susan Boyle is incredible!

Congrats on all of your massive achievements!

It's so amazing how even amongst person's trained for the public eye, one's eye finds itself indelibly drawn to you and your innate glow. I think that the Laini you probably were as a child is still so strong and protected within you!

BTW, in my research in figuring out whether Portland, OR or Brattleboro, VT is the right next step for my family, I happened across a ton of cool drop in centers for children. I've included a few here, which may give you and your hubby the chance to catch that movie. Do your due diligence though as I haven't seen these in person.
