STRANGE THE DREAMER

I'm thrilled to announce the new title for the novel I've been working on all year! You may recall, when it was initially announced, that the title was given as "The Muse of Nightmares." Well, I still love that title too, and am happy to say that it will serve as the sequel to this book, which has morphed, in the writing, into a duology. A duet. A pair. A one-two punch.

I should have known from the outset. Any story I come up with has a way of stretching its borders in every way possible. Prompts grow into novels. Novels spill over from one book to another to another. But after finishing the Daughter of Smoke & Bone trilogy, a standalone sounded really appealing!

So much for that. This is a story that's been growing quietly in my mind for years, and it was never going to fit itself meekly into one book. So here we are!

I think that all I said in my initial announcement was this:

There was a war between gods and men, and men won. The few surviving children of the gods have grown up in hiding, dreading the day they know must come: when humans find them, and end them.
That day is at hand.
Wheeeeee! You'll find an expanded description, plus an explanation for this new title over at NOVL, the awesome sight for book lovers produced by my publisher: Little Brown Books for Young Readers.

I'm super excited, guys. I really love this title, these characters, this world, and I sincerely hope that you do too!

XOXO

Yaaaaaaayyyyy! I was just thinking yesterday that the only bad thing about your books is the book heartbreak I feel when they are over. So happy to hear another one is on the way. Your writing is flubbin' wonderful.

Heard about your new book through @misterkristoff on twitter. I am going to check if this is up on The Book Depository yet. Never too early to pre-order.

You were an accidental discovery for me, which is one of my favorite kinds. I saw the Smoke and Bone trilogy just setting on the library shelf, with those cool covers, and thought I'd check them out. SO glad I did. Fantastic stuff, and a new book from you is always welcome.

But...

Magpie Windwitch is still out there. And Talon and the crows and Whisper and I've never begged an author to write a book before. Is that what you want, Laini? Do you want me to beg? BECAUSE I WILL! See what you've done to me? It's shameful! But if the price of another Dreamdark novel is my dignity, I'll pay it for all of us!

*ahem*

Sorry about that. I'm not usually so overwrought. That's how good your books are. I'm like a junkie waiting for my next fix. So, of course I'll read your newest when it comes out, and I suspect I'll love it, but please remember that some of your readers have a faerie-shaped hole that only you can fill which, now that I've written it out, sounds a whole lot grosser than it did in my head, but I'll leave it just the same, because though it may be gross, it's sincere.

How exciting! I love the Daughter of Smoke and Bone trilogy and have been eagerly awaiting another book from you -- I'm excited about this one already!

Curious, do you have plans to continue Dreamdark?

so excited about reading a new book from you.... also adding my voice to the asking for news from Dreamdark. question, do all of your universes coalesce or overlap some where or all they all distinct? it would be interesting if when the dark monsters rip through the veils as foretold in gods and monsters, all the worlds you have written about spill onto one another.

Hey laini! Im super excited for you with this, and the new books coming out in September...... I'm a massive fan of your other books- like, their on my bedside table with the classics for when I need them.Someone recently reminded me of how epic Blackbringer was, and I reread it, again. It is one of those books that strike a note with you, and keep you intrigued even when you repeat reading it; you know the plot but still are hooked on the beautiful lace of words.

Anyways, like I said before, i'm curious about the new book you are writing, but funnily enough when I found out you were signed up for a trilogy contract over 5 years, I was kinda surprised, almost mad...like, 83% excited, the rest disappointed because that meant five whole years to wait until you picked up other characters and stories I wanted to hear from too! (ie: dont leave me hanging at that ending with Magpie!!)

Awesome word alert!!! Found the word "Vellichor" recently and love it-yes it is English- and it describes the strange wistful timelessness of bookstores!Like, walking through and feeling that they are somehow infused with the passage of time, with thousands of books you will never get the chance to read. Thought you would enjoy that little treasure...its soooo beautiful and true, though it is a fairly new word.

Do you have a release date for Mexico!??? I can't wait to read it! Daughter of smoke and bone is my favorite trilogy of all times!!! Thanks so much for sharing with us more of your imagination!

Will you/your Publisher be sending ARCs out? I work at a bookstore, and a lot of my staff read YA books, which they then hand sell out on the floor. We don't always get the good ones...so I'd like to keep an eye out if they're going to be floating around out in the world.

Dear Ms. Taylor,
The Daughter of Smoke and Bone is one of my favourite series! The writing looks so effortlessly beautiful, without staying into Purple Prose territory. There's a sense that every word, every sentence, every paragraph is lovingly crafted. It's like a breath of fresh air among the tons of YA books you get these days trying too hard to sound deep and lyrical.
I can't wait for this series! The titles sound so signature Laini Taylor! :) Gosh, that release date seems so far away!

I don't know if you check this site but I just read chapter 77 in Dreams of Gods and Monsters and besides this trilogy being some of the BEST writing of all time, this chapter was just MAGNIFICENT. I am in awe of all the emotions that swept through me: hope, desire, lust, love, longing, wishful thinking, happiness, fear... I just am (nearly) speechless at how wonderful that one chapter is on its own but that it couldn't stand alone for all the meaning that the previous chapters bring to it. THANK YOU. this series has been a remarkable journey and the writing is just wonderful. Such a treat.
