DAUGHTER OF SMOKE & BONE JEWELRY!!

I'm late doing the full reveal here, it's been a crazy week, but I am very excited to show you the [nearly] full collection of ...

DAUGHTER OF SMOKE & BONE JEWELRY!

(There are a few more truly awesome pieces yet to come, hopefully in the next couple of weeks.)

Look at this amazing necklace!!!

That's the bronze Adder necklace, of bronze snake vertebrae on cord. Isn't it the coolest???

More below, but first, an announcement:

The timing of the jewelry launch was such -- smack in the middle of Hurricane Sandy -- that the two things became inseparable in my mind. Even our marvelous talented jeweler was in the midst of it, living in New York. All day, I was glued to the computer and Twitter, hoping everyone in the path of Sandy was doing okay. Together with my wonderful agent and partner, Jane Putch, it was an easy decision for us to donate all monies we receive from jewelry sales to the Red Cross, at least thru January 31, 2013. The wishbone necklace especially is such a particular symbol to me, it seemed meant to be. Here is that necklace, oh so lovely (also available in silver):

Those of you who have read Daughter of Smoke & Bone know the significance of this wishbone. For one thing, it was in many ways the seed from which the entire book grew. In the very first day of freewriting and playing with these characters who mysteriously and vividly appeared to me, the wishbone was around Brimstone's neck. As much as anything else, it was the question: Why is this monster wearing this wishbone? that led to the brainstorming process from which came the entire plot. And when its significance is finally revealed in the story, it is a symbol of hope, and a message that hope is more potent than wishing, that it is the real magic. Indeed: hope and the ones who act on it are the only magic powerful enough to change the world.

Here are some more pieces:

I hope you love these as much as I do!

Some snippets from the full PR release:

The Daughter of Smoke & Bone Jewelry Collection, designed by Janet Cadaswan, is available exclusively at http://www.daughterofsmokeandbonejewelry.com, with online rollout slated for after Thanksgiving. All items are available in either10K gold, sterling, brass, bronze and steel, and range in price from $45 to $500.

The Daughter of Smoke & Bone Jewelry Collection cleverly captures the visual essence of Laini Taylor’s stunning novel, in which Karou, a seventeen-year-old art student in Prague, finds herself caught in the middle of a brutal age-old war between the chimaera, creatures with human and animal attributes, and the beautiful and dangerous seraphim. Featured in the collection are mystical “chimaera” charms, such as the exotic Smoke and Bone Tooth Pendant, the adorn-your-goddess silver Chimaera Antelope Necklace, and bracelets of brilliantly colored African trading beads a.k.a. “Scuppies."

With a unique genre look that is glamorously Goth with a pinch of punk, the jewelry collection promises to thrill Daughter of Smoke & Bone fans and fashionistas alike. For him, must-have pieces with masculine verve include the Adder Necklace “man-ulet," which matches up with the Mephistis Necklace in bronze for her. All pieces perfectly pair with his and her black leathers, pegged denim, and mysteriously macabre maxis of this season's dark-sided sumptuous styles.
The Dazzling Collection for both men and women is just in time for this year's holiday season; prices will be in the moderate range $45 - $500. The Wishbone Necklace in silver $185. Tooth or vertebrae bracelets $420 in 10K gold and $97 in silver & $65 in bronze. Available now at http://www.daughterofsmokeandbonejewelry.com

Thank you to Janet Cadaswan for the gorgeous work! Thank you Jane for making it happen. And thank you, readers, for supporting this fun and beautiful venture. It's a thrill to see these, and it's been a thrill to give away pieces to readers who come to my book tour events! There was even one wishbone necklace given away, won by a reader in Houston!

And a few other things before I depart for the day, and then tomorrow for Los Angeles (I hope to see you at the Santa Monica Public Library tomorrow (at 4) and Glendale Barnes & Noble on Friday (at 7). There will be jewelry! And books, of course. Lots of books :-) Bring your questions, draw hamsas on your hands, come and chat. I can't wait to see you!

  • If you missed my Live at the Lounge video chat yesterday, you can catch it HERE. That was fun! (At the beginning, can you tell that I could barely remember a) my own name, b) the title of my book, c) my publisher's name. Ha! But I think I got better :-)

  • There's a fun guest post up on the wonderful writing site Figment.com featuring a look into my idea notebook, and a glimpse of where many of the ideas for Daughter of Smoke & Bone came from. There's also a writing challenge and a chance to win signed books! HERE.

  • From my lovely and amazing UK publishers, Hodder & Stoughton, this pub day gift arrived at my door. Thank you, Kate and Eleni and all the rest of the fabulous H&S crew!

A wonderful day to all! Cheers!

I love the series. The jewelry looks a lot creepier than I expected...lol...well, it is based on the chimaera (spelling?!). I should have expected that! My friend and I were discussing the books yesterday and I'd love to buy her the wishbone necklace, but it's a bit pricey.

Hopefully you'll be selling it long enough so I'll have time to save up some money. Ha ha ha...Oh, I just thought of something...why don't you design some angel wings or something representing those guys for those of us rooting for Team Akiva...even antelope horns for Ziri...just saying...lol...Anyway, the jewelry is an great idea.

I have you rant to you! I live really close to Glendale, so I could attend your book signing at the Barnes and Nobles store but I CAN't BECAUSE OF MY PARENTS AND BECAUSE OF THE FACT THAT THE BOOK SIGNING STARTS AT 7 PM!!! If it started earlier I might have the chance of meeting you!!! WWHY!!

Wheeee! That jewellery is GORGEOUS! Will it be available in the UK anytime? Because otherwise I can't get at it and that would make me sad.

Well done to you on donating all the money to the Sandy Relief too - a fantastic idea, and I'm sure it'll be a roaring success!

The jewelry is great. The wishbone is indeed quite purdy, but I really like the Mephistis piece... appeals to my inner paleontologist methinks.

Oh, and have you seen this Kickstarter project: http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/286387158/out-of-print-ebook-jackets-for-ipad-kindle-fire?source=nl-11-12

Sure, e-readers will never come close to holding the real deal in your hands, but this is a nice effort to make them more bookish, no?
