Bare-Chested Slovak Akiva

I made the mistake of tweeting the existence of a bare-chested Slovak Akiva this morning, thinking, ehh, I'll do the blog post later, but then I got sucked into the excitement of the thing and thought I would take a few minutes out from writing -- which OKAY I have not yet actually begun beyond an ill-fated attempt to put the date at the top of my working doc ... Did you know it is September today? Ahem. So I'm giving my brain a few more minutes to warm up.

And look! Foreign editions! I love foreign editions! I loved seeing the translator of the Latin American version of the Spanish edition on twitter this morning, and getting a Turkish inquiry in my inbox. I love answering translator questions. And I loOoOoOoOove getting foreign editions in the mail! My first foreign Daughter came this week, not counting UK/Aus/NZ. I thought the German edition would arrive first, as they have been in touch (lovely cover squee!!!) but it was the SLOVAK. And they even altered my name to Laini Taylorova, ha ha, how cool is that? I am an honorary Slovak!

I will be so curious to see other covers as they come in (we're up to 25 editions sold now, WOW). I wonder if any others will feature Akiva? Anyway, here it is: bare-chested Slovak Akiva!

Fun! It's been a good week for boxes of books from abroad. Also arrived, Italian Lips Touch:

(know what's crazy? They didn't include THE ART!!! Whuuut?)

And ... Portuguese Blackbringer!

Hi pretty books :-)

The new library is still in a mess, but we have a special spot staked out for foreign editions, "the shelf" being a major component of my life-long writer dream. It strikes me that if one had a large office (which I don't, mine is a sun porch), it would be cool to have a high picture ledge all the way around it for facing out various editions.

Okay. I think my brain has reached full function. Or close enough. Thank you, coffee. Now back to the manuscript!

I love the Blackbringer cover! <3 And not including the art in the Italian edition of Lips Touch? What??? I spent HOURS looking at the art, before and after I read the book! I'm still praying for a third Dreamdark book to one day happen! Congratulations on all the success Ms. Taylorova! ;)

Omg I love the Slovak cover and your Slovak name!
Can I ask you, that has Daughter of Smoke and Bone been sold to Hungary yet? I really hope it already has:)

Oh ho! Finally, Portuguese-language editions! I predict that Brazilian friends will be receiving books this years for presents!

Wait a minute, how can they just alter your name?! LOL that's so funny yet so awful at the same time.

The internet is now appeased. And perhaps a little flushed. :P

I bet all these editions are going to look amazing in your new library! Although I second Mindy's comment about LIPS TOUCH. The art was just as much a part of the story as the text... It's too bad your Italian readers won't know what they're missing.

Catherynne Valente tweeted about one of her new foreign editions recently, and the Czech publishers changed her name too! (It's Valentinova.) Haha.

I love the Taylorova!

How awesome is it to want a bigger office so you can showcase all the published editions of your own books? Congrats!

They're gorgeous!!! I love them! :) Congrats! :)

Congratulations, of course, but what my brain seized on anxiously is what would happen if your shelf with books facing out was in a sunny room. All the beautiful covers would fade...so be very carefull and pick a north facing wall!!!

Those are awesome covers! It's very interesting how they altered your name--and also weird! Is it really you? Are you sure?!? Lol...

i think i heard something about the name thing once -- like everyone's name ends in -ova, it's how you know it's a name or something. Sorry to be so vague. Taylorova sounds way cooler than my last name would with the suffix.

My question is: What is on Akiva's shoulder? Is he wearing a veil or something?

Akiva is yummy!! Must feel surreal to have all those books come in all those different languages and covers with your name on them!! I'm glad the rest of the world gets to read your amazing stories.

Congratulations! I plan on getting the German version, even though I already have the English one. It's such a beautiful cover!

So, if you released a Russia version, do you think they'll change your name to Taylora, since an a is always added to the end of a Woman's surname. I thought it was only for Russia names, but maybe like Slovakia, it's for everybody.

Those foreign editions are gorgeous! It's always interesting to look at the covers of foreign editions and I would love to but copies if I ever get to travel in those countries.

Interesting - I feel like the Slovak cover of Daughter captures the feel of the book even better than the American one, if that's possible. So pretty!

Laini Taylorova! How exotic! I totally lOVE it. And the covers...beautiful, though I too am sad about Lips Touch. Jim's illustrations are so precious and essential to the book.

That is so cool! I just got a flash of way back(not so long ago!!) when you were able to blog that you were getting published.Look at what you have done! Amazing, Miss Laini. Fun to see your dreams and hard work come true.

Hi Laini:

I just finished 'Daughter of Smoke & Bone' (great weekend for it with all this snow!) I don't write eloquent reviews so I'll just say this - it's books like these that make me wish amazon had a 10 star option. This is the best book I've read in ages and I can't wait for the next installment.

Cheers, Nikki

Yay! My order for Blackbringer and Silksinger came today. Don't understand why Amazon carries one and not the other?? So strange.
